Abstract
We studied the relation of whole body bone mineral density to body fat. To accomplish this, we examined the total bone mineral density, fat distribution, body mass index and body weight with dens-itometry(Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) in 67
postmenopausal women who had been followed up between 1992 and 1995.
@ES The results are summarized as follows:
@EN 1) The whole body bone mineral density increases with age(r=0.54).
2) There is a good relation between the whole body bone mineral density and body weight(r=0.54, p<0.001).
3) There is a relation between the whole body bone mineral density and body weight(r=0.28, p<0.01).
4) There is a relation between the whole body bone mineral density and body mass index(r=0.24 p<0.01).
5) The trunkal fat shows stronger correlations with the whole body bone mineral density than either the extremity fat or the whole body fat(r=0.339, p<0.001).
